Movie/Book Review - The Host by Stephanie Meyer

I'm always skeptical going into watch a movie after I've read the book. I don't think I've ever been to a movie that lived up to the novel. The Host is no different. Actually...it's boring...the movie not the book.

The book was a fantastic science fiction romance. *Spoiler Alert* But my favorite parts were the forays into the other worlds settled by the aliens. It really added the intrigue that the story needed to hold together. The movie didn't even touch on this. It didn't even go in to much about how the rebels were surviving. In short, it was just a lack luster weird romance. I'm glad I saw it at the Warren (Movie/Restaurant). A warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream served right at your seat makes everything better.

Tour Stop #5 - Logikal Blog

Here is the next stop.

http://logikalblog.com/

Nothing new, but if you're following this is today's.

Book Review: Book One: The Rise of Bob McDoogal by J.M. Gutierrez

Book Synopsis:

Bob McDoogal is the name, and sex, food, and making fun of EVERYTHING (even in the face of danger) is his game. Born with Cerebral Palsy and a speech impairment, watch him as he transforms into the verses first A.D.D. inflicted anti-superhero! He, along with his beautiful girlfriend Lusha, find out the meaning of life, kill aliens the way only they can, and travel the galaxies far and wide.

Excerpt (Edited for Language):

A scream comes from behind me. I turn and spot Lusha lying on the ground. Fire erupts from the depths of my stomach and rage engulfs me.
With blind fury, I speed to each alien and shove my arm through some, while I decapitate others. I run to her once I’m done.

“Lusha, baby, talk to me.” Please… Please… Oh, God. A wooden stake protrudes from her.

Wonder if the Type One will heal her if I pull it out? I grab the protrusion and pull. She moans.

“God baby, I’m sorry, I thought you wouldn’t feel that.”

For the first time in a while, I cry. Why won’t she answer? Oh crap… Oh…

“Your blood…,” she whispers. She… What? “Blood Bond…”

“You want my blood? What if it doesn’t…?”

“I think… Hurry…”

Let her bleed out, or kill her with my blood? What a choice. Here goes… I bite a chunk from my wrist and rub my open wound on hers, allowing our blood to mix.
Author Bio:
Juan Gutierrez is a 27 year old living in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Torrance, California. He is a Fantasy/Science Fiction writer. Inspired both Star Wars and Star Trek, he is determined to make a Galaxy Cluster all of his own. In 2012, he began his work on the character Bob McDoogal. Think The Mask with Jim Carrey (another major influence), mixed with Star Wars. That is the best way to describe his Dark humor Science Fiction Fantasy writing. He is currently working on book two of the series, aiming to have it done by the close of 2013.
My Review:
First and foremost, Bob Mcdoogal is an 18+ book.  It may be a 21+ book. So if you are offended by kinky, weird, bloody, alien sex or foul language, just skip the rest of this review because this book is not for you. This book IS for someone who wants to laugh out loud. This book is for someone who wants something out of the norm and that you're not going to find anywhere else. It's for people who root for the underdog and aren't surprised when they don't win.
The Rise of Bob Mcdoogal takes us on a journey of  an eighteen-year-old boy afflicted with cerebral palsy.  His life totally sucks. Then by luck, he gets killed. Oh, that's not the lucky part. He then gets resurrected by the oh-so-fine, Lusha who is a mutant and turns him into one, too. What follows is a funny, sexy, good vs. evil (and sometimes you're not certain which is which), action adventure in several galaxies.
You have to be willing to suspend your idea of known physics and other commonly believed scientific theories to enjoy this book. You can't go in thinking it's all going to make sense and there will be the typical "ah-ha, this is what it's all about" moment. You have to read this book for the fun of it.
So, to recap, If you are easily offended by gratuitous sex and language, read this book. Because I think it would be feakin' hilarious to watch you do it. Just kidding...maybe. For real, if you have even the tiniest of funny bones in your body, Bob Mcdoogal will make you laugh until is fractures. But only if you're old enough to vote...or drink.

Tour Stop #4 - Two Fantasy Floosies

Here's the link to my next stop.

http://www.fantasyfloozies.com/

It does ask if you are over 18 and gives an adult content warning. I promise you there is nothing offensive that I saw.  I think they sometimes review adult-adult type books and have to give that warning, but my post is safe! LOL!

Dark Night of the Soul - Draft One....DONE!!!

I wrote the last scene of DNS tonight. It never gets old, that feeling of completing something so grand as a novel (DNS is actually novella length.).  I've had this feeling when getting a song to just the right place, but there is something super thrilling about such  a large work being completed.

What's next? Rewriting. WooHoo!!!

See you there!!!

4 Days to Blog tour!...What IS a blog tour?

We're almost there.

Some of you have asked, what exactly a blog tour is. I think I've explained, but if you notice, there are some new things on my blog today that announce the blog tour.  If you click on  the banner or the button it will take you to my tour schedule.  Maybe this will help you better understand.  Each of the websites listed on the schedule review books. My book will be featured on their blog the day it's listed. Some days I will be reviewed, some days I'll be interviewed, and some days I'll be a guest poster. Notice the days that say "promo". Those will be opportunities to win books and an Amazon gift card! I am not above bribery.

Here is an excerpt from my guest blog post entitled "Identifying Problems With Your Writing":

I adore alliteration. I just can’t contain myself. It simply slips unseen into my story. My writing is wrought with the woeful words. My critiquers cringe at my crazy combinations that begin with the same sounds. Reviewers rant about the rampant rhymes.

My love of literature kindled in kindergarten when I was awakened to the world of rhyme. I’m sure it started there, my accursed alliteration affinity. It just feels fluid the way the words wrap and wind around each other. But it’s far more than the feel.  Alliteration can make a slithering snack hiss, or a bumbling bumblebee buzz. Don’t get me started on the cacophonous cackling of crows.

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!

My little sister got this email from Amazon this morning:

5 Days to Blog Tour!!!

I'm getting super excited and equally as nervous about this tour. I have all these questions. "Will they like me?" "What kind of reviews will they give me?" "Will anyone even follow my tour?"

But then I remind myself that I'm awesome and everyone likes me.

Here is an excerpt from a guest post entitled "Five MORE Things You Didn't Know About E.M. Havens":

I’m a musical genius. – Okay, not really. But I am the only person in the history of my college alma mater to test out of the first two semesters of Music Theory and Sight Singing. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Music.  I know, an English major would have made more sense…but I hate English.

Hope to see you on the tour!

6 Days to Blog Tour!!!

This month long event is going to be so much fun. I hope you will be my groupie and follow me throught the whole thing.

Here is another excerpt from a guest blog post entitled "How to Write a Novel", that will be featured during the tour:

Obsess – You will probably have to do some research for your story.  Spend excessive amounts of time googling and reading Wikipedia. Then talk about your findings with everyone who will listen, and some who won’t.  They will all eventually find the subject matter as fascinating as you.  That’s what blank stares and indiscriminate nodding means…I think.

I've never done that...just sayin'.

Sweet Mamma Jamma!!!!

Got my proof for the print version of Fate War: Alliance!!! WhootWhoot!

Blog Tour Count Down!!!!

One week until my blog tour starts!

It's going to be epic.

There will be ebook and gift card giveaways, interviews, guest posts, and of course reviews!!!

Here is a little something from one of my guest post entitled "5 Things You Didn't Know About Fate War: Alliance":

When I started writing Fate War: Alliance, it was supposed to be a standalone book. However, several characters began to whisper about their true origins and actions and the story kept building itself until I couldn’t complete it in one volume.  This book gives Sam’s rise to greatness, the next book…well, Let’s just say it’s time for Cole to man up and several more characters will come out of the shadows.
Hope to see you there!

Friday, March 15, 2013

Woohoo!!!!

I just ordered my proof of the paperback version of Fate War: Alliance!!!!

With any luck, it will be available by March 25th, to coincide with the start of my blog tour. More to come on that!

Finding time to Write... on a Farm

I love my husband.  Bless his heart, he does everything he can to make sure I have quiet time to write.  But we live on a farm.  Stuff happens.

He gave me several hours to my self and whisked the kids away. First the cat decided to start knocking the eggs I collected off the counter. I cleaned that up and put the eggs away. then she thought she wanted to taste test the nasty leftovers I found in the back of the fridge.  I put the Tupperware in the sink so she wouldn't knock it off. At that point she continued to try and lift the lid with her paw, making a pop sound every few seconds.

Then all hell broke loose outside.  I peeked out the window and didn't see anything. I went back to writing and then a big clunking, bellowing, hullabaloo startled me out of my comfy chair. I ran outside to see Stupid Cow had jumped the fence again and was stuck in the wood pile.  The dogs hit her with a full force "retreat or die" tactic and she jumped back over, but not before stomping my new roofing panels. I cleaned those up and now I'm going to try again.

Writing is FUN!!

What do ya do with a Slaggin' Pirate!?!?

Nothing.....

Fate War: Alliance has been pirated and is available for free on rogue websites. Beware, some of these sites are malicious and will also download a virus with the book.

So why am I doing nothing? Well, the people who steal others intellectual work would never have paid for it to begin with, BUT they may like it and tell their honorable friends....if they have honorable friends, who might buy it.

I'd like to take a moment to talk about piracy though.  Most people feel it's ok to download pirated books, music, and movies.  They think no one gets hurt.  They have never known an artist then.

The time, energy, sheer mental power, and sacrifice that has gone into their work is as valuable as the 9-5 the thieves may or may not put in. Artists have the same needs as everyone else, food, water, shelter, all of which may depend on even $.99 per book.  they have families that have missed them while they put in long hours completing their work.

Though I'm a little flattered that I've already been deemed worthy of theft by the slaggin' ashpans.

So I lied....

Well, seems I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to formatting books in print.  Give me a break...this is my first time!

Margin's play a major role in how many pages your book is.  Turns out....it's 264, not 500.
I doubled the gutter margin.
So sue me.

How many pages?

So, I'm still working on getting Fate War: Alliance into paperback form.

I got to the point today where I found out how many pages my book is.  As many people ask me that quite often, here's the answer.

Fate War: Alliance, as a 6X9 paperback, is 500 pages.

Now you know. And knowing......(leave a comment with the rest of that statement)

The Numbers

Why in the world would one give away a book they wrote? Do you know the personal and physical sacrifice that went into it? Yet still...that's what I did. The idea is, that giving it away makes it a no-risk investment. Hopefully those people will like it, leave a review, and tell their friends.  Then their friends will buy it. It also gives you visibility and creates a buzz.

My goal was to give away 1000 copies of Fate War: Alliance this weekend.  here are the numbers:

USA - 1273
UK - 105
Germany - 38
France - 6
Spain - 1
Italy - 5
Japan - 3
Canada - 16

For a grand total of: 1447!!!!!!!!!!

That's quite a buzz for a first time author I would say.

My book is now on 10 shelves over at Goodreads and that, in and of itself, is a pretty good start, and it's all due to giving away my book.

I'd like to thank Juan Gutierrez for marketing for me. He obviously did a good job.

You can check out his book here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Rise-Bob-McDoogal-ebook/dp/B00B3SAUGW/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1362405550&sr=1-1&keywords=rise+of+bob+mcdoogal

It's vulgar, crass, inappropriate and outright disgusting. But you'll laugh.

Thanks everyone!!!

Paperback Writer

Well, that's what I'm attempting.  It's harder than I thought, but I'm working over at www.createspace.com to get it up and running. Wish me luck!
