Then, I went car shopping with my husband. We only did this because my JOB is making it a possibility to afford one in the next year. When the salesman asked me, "What do you do?" I didn't give him the answer I've given my entire adult life, "I'm a mom." Instead, these words flew from my mouth, "I'm a writer." I think my heart stopped. I was mortified! I still don't know what possessed me to say that, but I did, and I couldn't take it back.
My pronunciation created a buzz at the car dealership. Before I knew it the manager had come out and was googling me on his iphone! Then he downloaded my books from Amazon. People were asking me if I had paperbacks with me and if I would sign them.
Surreal.
Needless to say, I probably won't be announcing to strangers in the future that I'm a writer. That was very stressful for me because I'm actually a very shy person...in person. My husband loved it. He's an attention monger so he was giddy with power.
Anyway, I think this little incident was my turning point. Being a writer has become part of me, and me part of it. It's what I am now...along with being a wife and a mom.
So...
Am I a writer? Yes. Yes, I am.
